Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills made two picks on Friday night in the second and third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

The team traded back a couple of times in the second round, gathering more draft picks in the later rounds before selecting running back James Cook with the 63rd overall selection.
“I'm versatile. I can separate myself in the back field, and line up out wide and take the deep shots and go deep and score touchdowns. That’s what they are getting in me,” said Cook after being drafted on Friday.
Then in Round 3, Buffalo stayed put and used their original pick (89th overall) to select linebacker Terrel Bernard out of Baylor.
Bernard says he had been in contact with the Bills as far back as the Senior Bowl back in January. He also says he met with a number of Bills coaches leading up to the draft.
“From the Senior Bowl, Combine, pro day, sitting down having conversations with the area scout, linebacker coach and also with [head coach Sean] McDermott, just having the opportunity to present myself and what I could bring to Buffalo,” Bernard said during his introductory Zoom call on Friday.
As for general manager Brandon Beane, he just stuck with his instincts when it came to breaking down the picks ahead of him in the draft order.
"We just followed the board," Beane said following Day 2 of the draft. "Ultimately, with the first selection of Cook, he’s kind of like a wide receiver. ... [as for Bernard,] he can play both inside and outside linebacker.”
