Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills have locked up a key piece to their defense now through the 2027 season.
The Bills and cornerback Taron Johnson have agreed on Monday to a three-year contract extension worth a reported $31 million, as first reported by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter and later confirmed by his agent Jason Chayut.
Over the last several seasons, Johnson has been one of the top slot cornerbacks in the entire league. The former fourth-round pick out of Weber State in 2018 earned Second-Team All-Pro honors last season.
In his six seasons with the Bills, Johnson has developed into an extremely valuable member of a defense that plays primarily nickel defense. The 27-year-old has played 88 regular games in a Bills uniform, starting 67 contests and collecting 450 total tackles, four interceptions and seven sacks.
Perhaps Johnson's most notable moment, to date, with the Bills was his 101-yard pick-six touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Divisional Round during the 2020 postseason.
Johnson's salary cap hit for 2024 was scheduled to be $12.4 million, but this extension will likely give the Bills an ability to lower that number.
