The Buffalo Bills' third round pick gives a boost to the offensive side of the trenches, as they selected offensive tackle Spencer Brown out of the University of Northern Iowa.
Brown checks in as a significant presence on the offensive line, standing in at an astonishing 6-foot-8 and 311 pounds.
Before the 2020 season was postponed, Brown was named a preseason FCS All-American. In the years prior, Brown started 33 of the 34 games he played for Northern Iowa. Brown lined up as the starting right tackle for the Panthers in every game during the 2019 season.
Despite having the chance to play at Power 5 schools during the 2020 season, Brown chose to stay loyal to Northern Iowa. Brown represented Northern Iowa at the 2020 Senior Bowl.
Brown was able to register a 4.94 40-yard dash time at his pro day. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein likes Brown’s athleticism for being an offensive tackle.
“[Brown is a] towering tackle prospect with the hands, feet and length in place to become a quality pass protector on the next level,” Zierlein said. “Despite playing right tackle his entire career at Northern Iowa, Brown has the athleticism to give it a go on the left side if a team desires. He's packed on weight and muscle over the years but his performance at the Senior Bowl practices showed that there is still work to do in terms of improving his core strength to offset his high center of gravity. He can play in a variety of run schemes, but he will be at his best on the move, where his foot quickness will give him an advantage in finding the angles. Slippery athletes with good length will be trouble for him early and maybe beyond, but he's an above-average hand-fighter with a variety of pass sets he can utilize, which should help him as an eventual starter with early swing tackle value.”
Brown joins an offensive tackle group on the team that features Dion Dawkins, Daryl Williams, Ryan Bates and newcomer Bobby Hart.
The Bills will next pick with the 161st overall selection in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
