Bills sign punter Cameron Johnston, release Brad Robbins

Kicker Matt Prater has also been signed to the 53-man roster

Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills have made a change on special teams after just one game in the 2025 season.

The Bills announced Tuesday the signing of punter Cameron Johnston, while also releasing Brad Robbins, who had joined Buffalo this offseason as a free agent.

In addition, the Bills have signed kicker Matt Prater to the active roster from the practice squad.

This marks the ninth season in the NFL for the 33-year-old, who last punted for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024. Johnston has appeared in 96 career regular season games with the Philadelphia Eagles (2017-2020), Houston Texans (2021-2023) and Steelers.

Johnston was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Eagles in 2017.

In seven seasons of work in the NFL, Johnston has recorded 447 punts, averaging 47.3 yards, and recording just 28 touchbacks, while pinning opponents inside their 20-yard line 183 times.

Meanwhile, Robbins punted just one game for the Bills this season, averaging just 39.5 yards on four punts, with only one of them ended up inside the opponent's 20-yard line.

As for Prater, he takes over kicking duties for the Bills after Tyler Bass was placed on Injured Reserve last week with a groin injury.

In his first game with the Bills on Sunday, the 41-year-old went 2-for-2 on extra point attempts, while going 3-for-3 on field goal tries. This included the game-winning 32-yard field goal as time expired to help lift the Bills over the Baltimore Ravens, 41-40, at Highmark Stadium.
