The Buffalo Bills have made a trade with the Carolina Panthers, adding to their linebacker group with the acquisition of Andre Smith. In return, the Bills send the Panthers a conditional pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Smith appeared in all 16 games for the Panthers in 2019, mainly on special teams. He played the second-most special teams snaps for Carolina last year with 315 snaps.

There was little playing time for Smith on defense last season, playing just 15 defensive snaps.

This move likely means less about the Bills linebacker room as it does for special teams contributors. Running back Taiwan Jones, who largely plays special teams, has been absent from Bills practice, dealing with a knee injury.

Smith was the Panthers' seventh round pick in 2018, a pick that was sent to Carolina from the Bills as part of the Kelvin Benjamin trade.
