Houston, TX (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills are back in action for the 2026 NFL season. It’s the first outing for Joe Brady as head coach and his staff including defensive coordinator Jim Leonard who’s looking to set the tone on the season.
The offense seemed a little discombobulated after a few good run plays from James Cook. Houston’s defense was beginning to close in. It came down to a fourth down on the first offensive drive for the Bills. A designed quarterback run for Josh Allen was stopped short for a turnover on downs.
Greg Rousseau and the Bills defense came up big on their first drive with strip sack. Ultimately, Allen and the Bills offense found themselves on fourth down. Brady had them going for it on fourth down, but there were too many men in the huddle, so they were forced to punt.
C.J. Stroud and the Texans offense marched right down the field on the Bills defense. A big pass to Nico Collins set up David Montgomery up for a touchdown run. The Texans took their first lead of the season 7-3.
The lead did not last long as Josh Allen marched the offense down the field and took it upon himself to score the first touchdown of the season for the Bills on a 21-yard run.
Stroud, Montgomery, and the Texans offense moved through the Bills defense on their drive, looking to answer back. They ultimately would with an 18-yard touchdown.
Allen answered back quickly as his offense drove down the field for another score by him. After a deep pass down the field to DJ Moore drew a pass interference call, Allen was able to rush one yard up the middle for the touchdown. The bills held a 17 -14 lead with about four minutes left in the second quarter.
The scoring for Buffalo didn’t stop there. After the defense forced to punt on Houston’s next drive, Allen’s arm took over the next drive. He first completed a 38 yard pass to Dalton Kincaid, then a 15 yard pass to DJ Moore, then another pass to Moore for 43 yards and a touchdown. It was now 24-14 with a minute and a half left in the first half of the game.
Houston wasn’t gonna go down without a fight, as Stroud shredded up the Bills defense. He kept the drive off of a 12 yard touchdown pass to Nico Collins. It was a three-point contest, heading into the halftime.
The scoring came to a screeching halt in the third quarter. It was punt after punt from Buffalo and Houston. The Bills put the first points of the half on the board with a 34-yard field goal from Tyler Bass.
The Texans followed up the Bills field goal with Montgomery’s third touchdown. This time, on the receiving end of a 7-yard pass from Stroud.
The lead would not last long in the fourth quarter as the Bills marched back down into Houston territory where Tyler Bass stayed perfect on the day, drilling a 33-yard field goal to take the lead back by two points.
Back to the Texans the lead went. After a massive 58-yard field goal from Ka’imi Fairbairn.
