Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - In a somewhat surprising turn of events, safety Jordan Poyer is returning to the Bills after testing the free agent market, signing a new two-year contract to remain in Buffalo.

Listen to WGR now!

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport was the first to report the signing for the Bills.

The safety made it clear since training camp he wanted to stay, but there was never any indication the two sides were anywhere close to working something out during or immediately after the season.

The 2021 First-Team All-Pro will be 32 in April. Injuries have mounted, including missing four games this past season. In 12 games played, Poyer finished the year with four interceptions, 63 total tackles, and an invitation to the Pro Bowl.

Poyer was named the AFC's Defensive Player of the Week for his Week 4 performance at the Baltimore Ravens.

Poyer will be re-united with his safety running mate, Micah Hyde, who still has one more year remaining on his contract with the Bills.
