Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen will not be playing in the Pro Bowl this season. Allen has turned down the request to play this year after Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson had to be scratched due to an ankle injury.
In a message to ESPN NFL insider Chris Mortensen, Allen stated that he wanted to spend the offseason resting up to get ready for next season, as his style of play often leaves him "battered and bruised."
While Allen’s regular season stats were not as impressive as they were in 2020, his 2021 campaign was still a very solid one. The 25-year-old threw for 4,407 yards, while completing 63.3% of his passes with 36 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Meanwhile, his playoff stats were eye-popping in two games, where he completed 77.4% of his passing attempts for 637 yards and nine touchdowns.
In all this season, Allen threw for 5,044 yards and 45 passing touchdowns. He also had over 800 rushing yards combined in 2021 and six scores on the ground.
The original three quarterbacks who were named to the AFC team for the Pro Bowl this season were Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs), Justin Herbert (Los Angeles Chargers) and Jackson. Allen was named a first alternate at quarterback.
It is unclear, at the moment, who will be taking Jackson's place on the AFC roster.
The Bills already have wide receiver Stefon Diggs and left tackle Dion Dawkins representing the team at the 2021 Pro Bowl, which will take place on Sunday, Feb. 6 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
