OPINION: Howard Picks the Bills: Week 14

Does Buffalo's victory over the Steelers instill confidence in Howard to run the table?

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills were able to maintain their playoff heading on Sunday with a 26-7 road win over the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium.

It was a dominant performance for the Bills following a second-half adjustment, where the Bills laid it on the Steelers.

The offense essentially ran the same play for the entire game, as James Cook was able to dial up a dominant performance on the ground with 144 yards on 32 rushes. He also ended up being the Bills' leading receiver with three receptions for 33 yards.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen tallied a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown in the win. His rushing touchdown was a historic one in the process, being the 76th rushing touchdown of his career. surpassing Cam Newton for the most rushing scores all-time among quarterbacks.

Defensively, the Bills stepped it up from the start, but really helped take over the game from the first play of the second half.

It was defensive end Joey Bosa forcing a fumble of Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers deep in Pittsburgh territory, which was then recovered by cornerback Christian Benford for a 17-yard touchdown.

On the very next drive, with backup quarterback Mason Rudolph playing a series for Rodgers, Benford was in the right place at the right time to reel in an interception on an overthrown ball down the sideline.

With the two turnovers, it helped Benford earn AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors for Week 13 in the NFL.

Up next for the Bills is another key AFC North matchup, this time against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals from the comfort of home at Highmark Stadium.

While the Bengals enter the contest at 4-8, Cincinnati has excelled with their franchise quarterback under center with wins in the last eight games Burrow has started going back to last season. It was a toe injury in Week 2 of the season that derailed the Bengals' season, being forced to turn to either Jake Browning or Joe Flacco under center.

Even though the Bengals possess, arguably, one of the top offenses when healthy, their defense has been abysmal once again this year, ranking dead-last in points, total yards per-game, total yards per-play, pass yards and first downs allowed. They are also second-to-last this year in rush yards, passing average and third-down efficiency.

With five games left in the 2025 season and the Bills trailing the Patriots by two-and-a-half games in the AFC East, does Howard Simon feel Buffalo has one last run in them to reclaim the division for a sixth-straight season?

While Howard believes the Bills will win their matchup with the Bengals in Week 14, he does not feel this is Buffalo's year to wear the AFC East crown once again.

Even though Howard picks the Bills to fall in New England, essentially securing the Patriots the division, he does pick the Bills to then win the final three games of the year against the Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets to finish 12-5 and, potentially, locked in as the top Wild Card team in the AFC heading into the playoffs.
