Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills faced a tough test on Sunday in a showdown with the high-flying Miami Dolphins, but did not back down.
In fact, not only did the Bills keep pace with the Dolphins, they eventually contained their stellar offense while cruising to a 48-20 win at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.
Led by quarterback Josh Allen, the Bills put up 424 total yards to total offense on Sunday, which included 320 yards from Allen in the air on 21-of-25 passing and four touchdowns.
Wide receiver Stefon Diggs accounted for 120 receiving yards and three of Buffalo's six touchdowns on only six receptions. Buffalo's other sources of scoring came from a receiving touchdown courtesy of wide receiver Gabe Davis, and rushing touchdowns from running back James Cook and Allen himself.
While the Buffalo defense had troubles containing the Dolphins early in the game, the unit stepped up and slowed down Miami just enough for the Bills to pull away.
The defensive front was able to make things very difficult on Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, as the Bills registered four sacks, two of which coming from defensive end Greg Rousseau.
The defense also forced a pair of turnovers on Sunday with linebacker Terrel Bernard recovering another fumble recovery, and safety Micah Hyde picking off Tagovailoa.
With one of the hardest games early on the 2023 schedule now out of the way, the Bills will be presented with another challenge this coming week. That comes with traveling overseas to London, England to face the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Jaguars are already in London after having played there against the Atlanta Falcons this past Sunday. It was a convincing win for Jacksonville, as their 23-7 victory helped get the team to 2-2 on the year and back in contention for the AFC South.
This game could later have a big impact on the AFC standings, because if the Bills win, they could not only gain an upper hand on other opponents, but also push down a strong contending team in the conference like the Jaguars.
After boldly picking the Bills to beat the Dolphins last week, Howard Simon returned with even more confidence this week on WGR following a very satisfying win over the Dolphins. So much so that he picked the Bills to defeat the Jaguars in London, and then continue their current winning streak all the way to 10 games.
When all was said and done with Tuesday's edition of "Howard Picks the Bills", Howard had the Bills finishing 14-3 on the season with the only remaining losses coming to the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys.
With that type of result, it would almost certainly clinch the Bills a fourth-straight AFC East title, but could also rival that of other AFC teams for the elusive top spot in the conference come playoff time!
