Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott was very matter-of-fact and direct when talking to reporters on Wednesday, specifically about his team's struggles in the run game.
"It is something that we need to do and do better if we want to be the team that we're trying to become," he said. "I don't think it's been just the last couple of games. It started the first game (against the Pittsburgh Steelers). Look at that film. Go back to last year, at the end of the season in particular. That's where we're at."
McDermott added he thought his team would be "further along" and "had progressed" in the running game.
Through nine weeks, the Bills rank 11th in rushing yards per-game (119.8) and 12th in yards per-play (4.44). However, it's becoming more clear opposing defenses are not respecting their ability to run the football, in turn making it harder on the passing game.
The offense had there lowest output of the season this past Sunday in Jacksonville, totaling just 301 yards of offense and failing to score a touchdown in a 9-6 loss to the Jaguars.
"I can promise you that adjustments are being made." McDermott said. "Whether you see them or not, that's what good teams do."
The Bills were back on the practice field on Wednesday as they prepare to face the New York Jets this Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
