McDermott pleased with Bills keeping composure in Wild Card win over Jaguars

Bills head coach Sean McDermott addressed the media following his team's road playoff win in Jacksonville

Jacksonville, Fla. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - For the first time since the 1992 season, the Buffalo Bills earned a playoff win on the road, beating the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday in dramatic fashion, 27-24, in the AFC Wild Card Round.

It was a scrappy fight from start-to-finish, with neither team willing to concede. In the end, though, the Bills were able to score late to take the lead on a quarterback sneak by Josh Allen.

Then with less than a minute left on the clock, the Buffalo defense came through in a big way to seal the game. It was veteran cornerback Tre'Davious White breaking up a pass from Trevor Lawrence that ended up in the hands of safety Cole Bishop, allowing the Bills to kneel out the clock and advance to the AFC Divisional Round next weekend to face the 1-seed Denver Broncos.

"Nobody blinked. We kept our composure all the way through the game, which we knew was going to be a challenge," said Bills head coach Sean McDermott following the win in Jacksonville. "Coming down here against a really good football team that's talented and well-coached, we saw it through. Guys stood firm and we made the plays we needed to make."

While Allen was able to help lift Buffalo to another playoff win, the first of his career on the road, the reigning MVP took a beating but did not falter. McDermott appreciated his quarterback's toughness in the win, but knows it will be important to keep him healthy going forward.

"It trickles down from him, in terms of the team's toughness. When your quarterback is that type of warrior, that type of competitor, from a leadership standpoint, it just goes through the whole team," McDermott said. "We've got to get him as healthy as we can for next week. So it's not something we take lightly. And I did think overall, he took some hits today, but there was also times where we protected him well."
