Buffalo Bills veteran offensive lineman Mitch Morse is excited for his seventh NFL season.
You just need to read until the end of the post to find out.
Morse put a scare this week into some of his offensive line cohorts with an Instagram post that began with an anonymous couple of lines.
“As the years progress in this league, you realize that this game doesn’t owe you anything,” Morse wrote. “Every opportunity to play a snap in a game, or even practice, is a privilege.”
Those sound like the words of somebody who’s retiring, right?
Psyche! In the very next sentence, Morse alludes to being an “old-timer trying to pass on sage advice” to younger players, even if he may not always follow it himself.
Hopefully one of the lessons Morse passes on to his teammates is the importance of reading all the way through. Offensive lineman Jordan Devey responded and said he thought Morse was going to hang it up — after perusing through the first two sentences.
“Man I thought you were going to retire,” Devey commented. “Don’t scare me like that!”
Former second round pick Cody Ford packed up Devey’s concerns.
“I’m reading it thinking the same thing,” Ford said.
Sometimes veterans do retire before the start of training camp. Steelers linebacker Vince Williams announced his retirement on Wednesday, just a few months after re-signing with Pittsburgh.
Fortunately for the Bills, Morse is sticking around. The starting center anchors a strong offensive line that hopes to, once again, give Josh Allen enough time to conduct his magic.
