Report: Bills restructure contracts for two defensive players

The move will free up around $2.78 million of cap space

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills are one many teams in the NFL that are close to the top of the league's salary cap. However, a couple of reported moves on Tuesday will help give the Bills some additional cap space heading into the 2024 regular season.

According to a report from ESPN NFL insider Field Yates, the Bills have restructured the contracts of defensive end A.J. Epenesa and defensive tackle DaQuan Jones to create an additional $2.78 million of cap space.

Both players received new contracts from the Bills earlier this offseason.

Epenesa signed a two-year, $12 million contract to remain with the Bills before he was set to test the free agent market in March.

During the 2023 season, Epenesa recorded 20 total tackles and 6.5 sacks for the second season in-a-row. He also recorded two interceptions, a fumble recovery and his first-career defensive touchdown.

Jones also signed a two-year contract to remain in Buffalo at a value of $16 million. This also came just a day before the free agent market officially opened in March.

Despite missing a majority of the 2023 season with a pectoral injury suffered in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the veteran tackle still appeared in seven games, recording 16 total tackles and 2.5 sacks.
