Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills will be in search of a veteran backup presence at quarterback once the new league year and free agency opens Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.

The Houston Texans have signed former Bills backup quarterback Case Keenum to a two-year contract worth a reportedly worth $6.25 million. The first to report the signing was veteran Texans beat reporter John McClain.
Keenum is expected to become the new backup quarterback for the young rookie starter that's likely to become the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
The 25-year-old joined the Bills last offseason as the replacement for Mitchell Trubisky, who left the team to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Keenum only saw limited action with Buffalo this past year, going 2-of-7 for eight yards on 24 total snaps.
Behind starting quarterback Josh Allen, the Bills only have veteran Matt Barkley under contract, who signed a Reserve/Future contract at the end of the 2022 season. Barkley spent this past season in Buffalo on the team's practice squad.
Meanwhile, Keenum returns to Houston where not only he had great success playing at the University of Houston in college, but he also began his NFL career with the Texans.
In his five seasons playing with the Cougars, Keenum set the NCAA Division I FBS all-time records for:
- Most career passing touchdowns (155)
- Most career passing yards (19,217)
- Most career pass completions (1,546)
Meanwhile, with the Texans, Keenum posted a 2-8-0 record in 10 career games played, throwing for 2,195 yards on 55.2% passing, 11 touchdowns to eight interceptions. Keenum spent the first three seasons in Houston before moving on to join the Rams organization.
