Pittsford, N.Y. (WGR 550) - It has been a long while since anyone has heard from Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
Following Buffalo's loss in the AFC Divisional Round to the Cincinnati Bengals at Highmark Stadium, the veteran wideout has only spoken a couple of times about what happened following that game, and the offseason he has had, which includes him being excused from the first day of mandatory minicamp in Orchard Park.
With Bills training camp officially opening Wednesday at St. John Fisher University in Pittsford, Diggs finally broke his silence with the assembled media and touched on a number of questions.
LISTEN LIVE TO WGR:
Perhaps the biggest question addressed Wednesday was surrounding the fallout of, what appeared to be, a sideline outburst in the Bills' playoff loss to the Bengals, as well as being excused from the first day of mandatory minicamp last month.
Diggs feels the Bills are still in a real Super Bowl window, which is part of the reason why his frustration showed at the end of the playoff loss to the Bengals.
As for what happened at mandatory minicamp, Diggs says he has had conversations with head coach Sean McDermott, and was quite open during those discussions.
"We've been trying to get over the hump, and obviously it caused a lot of frustration. But all-in-all, as far as with that, I was here. We did have a conversation, me and him did have a conversation. It's all water under the bridge now," said Diggs on Wednesday.
There were also speculations this offseason that Diggs was upset with his role in the Bills offense. Diggs found it insane to suggest he wants more of a say in the offense going forward.
"For me to just want more say in offense is crazy, because I play receiver. I don't care what play is called, I can't get in there and say, 'Call this!' It's a lot of outlandish things people were throwing out there," Diggs said. "People were saying, as far as like my role, I've been a captain on this team for three years. There's no question about my role and who I am as a player, how hard I work. Those things never had question marks, and you can't say the same thing for a lot of people in the league. As a player, who I am and what I am has always been represented. And what I do on a consistent basis, how hard I work, you can see it."
As for his future with the Bills, Diggs says there is no where else he would rather be than in Buffalo.
"Forcing my way out anywhere is not my goal. I don't feel like I have to, at this point. I feel like I'm in a great space, I'm in a great place," he said. I'm loved and I'm appreciate, and at the end of the day, that's all I want. That's all anybody would want in any job that you do. I don't care what you do, or who you work for. You want to be appreciated for what you do."
