The Toronto Blue Jays ended up on the wrong side of history on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium as the "Bronx Bombers" lived up to their nickname, bashing more home runs in another rout of the Jays, 13-2.
To say that Toronto pitching has struggled against the Yankees in the first two games of the series might be kind. It has been an outright disaster. After giving up 20 runs and six home runs on Tuesday night, the Yankees exploded for a seven-home run performance and 13 more runs on Wednesday.
It was the first time in New York franchise history that the team hit at least six home runs in back-to-back games. It was also the first time in Toronto team history that the team surrendered at least six home runs in back-to-back games.
The Yankees got three home runs from Kyle Higasioka, two home runs from D.J. LeMahieu, and also going deep were Clint Frazier and Luke Voit. Voit now leads all of Major League Baseball with 19 home runs on the season.
The Blue Jays' offense struggled getting to Yankees starter Gerrit Cole, as it took until the sixth inning before the Jays even got their first hit. Cole was the winning pitcher, going seven innings, giving up just three hits and striking out eight. Toronto starter Tanner Roark gave up six runs in four innings and took the loss.
The Yankees have now won seven straight games.
