(670 The Score) The Cubs officially activated right-hander Tyler Chatwood and left-hander Jose Quintana ahead of their game at the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday evening.
Chatwood will start for the Cubs (18-10), and Quintana is lined up behind him in relief so long as it’s the right scenario to utilize him, manager David Ross said on the Laurence Holmes Show on Tuesday afternoon.
Chatwood returns after a stint on the injured list with back soreness. Chatwood has a 5.40 ERA in three starts this season. He was superb in his first two outings before being hit hard in his third one.
“I got a ton of confidence in Tyler,” Ross said.
Quintana is back after spending the first 28 games on the injured list after having surgery in early July to repair a left thumb laceration. He’ll be used out of the bullpen for now, Ross said. Quintana had a 4.68 ERA in 32 appearances in 2019.
The Cubs optioned right-hander Jason Adam and outfielder Ian Miller back to their alternate camp in South Bend in corresponding moves Tuesday.
First pitch between the Cubs and Tigers comes at 6:10 p.m.
