Curtis Granderson made an appearance on Untold Stories with Master Tes and talked about his journey to the big leagues, the 2015 New York Mets making it to the playoffs, and how he pulled a prank on 1B Lucas Duda only 30 minutes prior to first pitch.

During the Mets’ series against the Dodgers in the 2015 NLDS, Duda was at batting practice and hit a deep ball that broke a sign. Granderson, who wanted to keep the clubhouse loose, pulled a prank on Duda by putting a note on his chair saying the Dodgers are requesting $10,000 to pay for the broken sign.

“I just wanted to keep everyone loose,” said Granderson. “I went in (Dodgers stadium) and I asked for the Dodger letterhead on a piece of paper. I had it typed up, 'hey we are the Los Angeles Dodgers, and we are fining you $10,000 for breaking the sign. Signed so and so.' I put it on his chair, and he say, 'what should I do?' This is 30 minutes before first pitch.”

Granderson said he told Duda he should pay it but after he told Duda about his prank, he went on to have a great series for the Mets, beating the Dodgers to advance to the NLCS. The Mets were able to sweep the Cubs and head to the World Series where Grandson explains losing the first game of the series dug the Mets’ into to deep of a hole.

“That first game in Kansas City we were up. Alex Gordon hits a home run to put it into extras. Going to New York down 0-2 versus of going to New York 1-1 because I think we were going to lose the second game; they played really well, that puts us into a different situation because everyone says Game 3 is the turning point. Then it was playing catchup time and we just ran out of juice.”

Granderson had a stellar career batting .249 and 344 home runs. He played four of his 16 seasons in the majors with the Mets.
