Seven-time All-Star closer Billy Wagner's son, Will, was selected by the Houston Astros in the 18th round of the 2021 MLB Draft, with the 538th overall pick.

Billy was the No. 12 overall pick in the 1993 MLB Draft by the Astros, and spent the first nine seasons of his career in Houston, so this is a pretty cool turn of events for the family:

Will - drafted out of Liberty University - probably doesn't remember much of his dad's time in Houston, as Wagner was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies ahead of the 2004 season.

Nonetheless, it would be quite the story for Billy's son to find success with the Astros. And he seemingly could - if he signs - given that he is coming off of a season where he drove in 52 runs, earning him a spot on the ASUN All-Conference First Team.

Will's father was one of the greatest closers in MLB history, also pitching for the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves, in addition to the two aforementioned teams. Wagner finished his career with a 2.31 ERA and 422 saves, which puts him sixth in MLB history currently. Billy received 46.4% of the Hall of Fame vote in 2021, his sixth year on the ballot.
