The Mets' recent hot streak went to pot in the Windy City.
A couple of star players for the Amazin's left little to the imagination about what they thought of their performance while speaking with reporters following their third consecutive loss to the Cubs on Thursday.
First baseman Pete Alonso described the feeling in no uncertain terms.
"Being swept feels like eating a shit sandwich, to be honest with you," he said.
The Polar Bear was just 2-for-12 in the series, though both of his hits were home runs, including a heat-seeking missile that sailed out of Wrigley Field altogether.
Shortstop Francisco Lindor's mind was similarly in the gutter -- er, sewer. But he said it was important not to allow the bitter stench of defeat to linger.
“Learn from what’s happened, learn from our mistakes, but we flush it," Lindor said. "In baseball you’ve got to have a short-term memory. Remember the good things, remember the bad things that are going to make you better for the next time, and then flush the rest."
Lindor was 3-for-12 with a homer in the series -- his first bomb as a Met -- but all of his damage came in a massive blowout on Wednesday, in which the Cubs exploded for 16 runs.
The Mets fell to 7-7 with the three-game skid, deflating some of the momentum built up after consecutive series victories against the Phillies and Rockies.
But it's way too soon to panic and suggest their season is circling the drain.
