Three-time Olympian Kevin Durant has had an interesting few days in Tokyo. A mix-up over which ball belonged to who was the impetus for a dispute between Durant and Bam Adebayo at Thursday’s practice, with the teammates continuing to bicker over social media even after the issue was resolved.
A day later, while attending the Olympic Opening Ceremony, Durant was serenaded by fellow members of Team USA, who joined in wishing the Brooklyn Nets All-Star a Happy Birthday. The 32-year-old did not seem particularly amused, likely because his birthday isn’t for another two months.
Tory Barron of ESPN noted the similarities between Friday’s sing-along and what transpired at the last Olympics, when elder statesman Carmelo Anthony appeared utterly disgusted with teammates Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green, who were belting out Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” en route to Brazil for the 2016 games in Rio.
