Jets finally complete trade to acquire Aaron Rodgers from Packers

Rodgers heads to New York more than a month after making his intentions known to join the Jets

New York (WFAN/WGR 550) - At long last, the Jets have completed their trade with the Green Bay Packers to bring future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to New York, according to multiple reports.

After weeks and weeks of waiting, the Jets will reportedly swap first-round picks in the 2023 NFL Draft with the Packers, meaning the Jets would now pick at No. 15 instead of No. 13, and will acquire Green Bay's fifth-round pick this year. The Packers, meanwhile, will get the Jets' 42nd overall pick in this year's draft, as well as their 207th overall pick.

In addition, New York gives up a 2024 second-round pick that becomes a first-round pick if Rodgers plays 65% of the team's offensive snaps that season.

With Rodgers now in the fold, the Jets have their starting quarterback they have been searching for for decades.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reports Rodgers will wear No. 8 with the Jets, which he wore in college while at the University of California, Berkeley. Schefter adds that Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath gave Rodgers his blessing to sport No. 12 in New York, but Rodgers chose otherwise.

This ends a saga in Green Bay that has been ongoing for several weeks. It was more than a month ago when Rodgers made his intention clear during the "Pat McAfee Show" that he wanted to play again in 2023, but for the Jets and not the Packers.

Rodgers finishes his career in Green Bay holding the franchise record for touchdown passes (475), while also finishing second in wins (147), completions (5,001) and yards (59,055). He also earned four NFL MVP honors while in Green Bay, and helped the Packers earn a Super Bowl ring in the 2010 season.

The Packers told NFL Network they anticipate the deal to be finalized before the draft on Thursday night.
