Louisville, Ky. (WGR 550) - Entering the 149th running of the Kentucky Derby as a 15-1 favorite, Mage, trained by Gustavo Delgado from Venezuela, was able to gain the lead in the home stretch over Angel of Empire to win the "Fastest Two Minutes in Sports."
Entering Saturday's first leg of horse racing's Triple Crown, Mage only had one victory in three previous races. The col ended up running the 1.25-mile race in 2:01.57 under jockey Javier Castellano.

For Castellano, this is the first time the Hall of Fame jockey has won the Kentucky Derby in his 16th try. The Venezuelan jockey was able to help Mage come back from a shaky start out of the gate to get the win.
Mage comes away with the win after the early favorite, Forte, was scratched in the morning with a bruised foot. Forte was one of five horses that dropped out in the run-up to the race.
