(93.7 The Fan/WGR Sports Radio 550) - Christmas Day was the big holiday for the National Basketball Association, but the National Football League has come in and completely demolished basketball.
So much for all of those "I’m not watching the NFL anymore" people.
According to Neilsen, over 48 million people watched the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium, followed by the Baltimore Ravens matching up with the Houston Texans at MRG Stadium on Netflix on Wednesday.
To break it down further, 24.3 million people watched the Ravens obliterate the Texans, while 24.1 million tuned into watch the Chiefs dominate the Steelers.
Meanwhile, the NBA had its highest rating on Christmas in five years, but it was peanuts compared to the NFL.
The highest-rated game of the day (Lakers vs. Warriors) averaged 7.76 million.
More proof the NFL is in a league of its own when it comes to sports domination.
And after a Mike Tyson/Jake Paul boxing event with several glitches, Netflix’s first foray into the NFL was an overwhelming success. The broadcast went smoothly and was professionally executed with only a few minor issues.
It’s another sign that the future of the NFL is streaming. Too many people are watching, and too much money is there to be made.
