New Orleans, La. (94WIP/WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday to win Super Bowl LIX in shocking fashion, completely dominating the game from start-to-finish in a 40-22 victory at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
Overall, Philadelphia allowed just 275 total yards to Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs (a lot of that total coming in garbage time), while sacking the quarterback six times and forcing two interceptions.
One of those interceptions was a game-changing pick-six by Eagles rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean in the first half. That made the game 17-0 with 7:03 left in the second quarter, and swung all the momentum in Philadelphia's favor.
The Eagles also got a game-sealing strip sack by Milton Williams with 9:51 remaining in the fourth quarter. The defensive tackle had a pair of sacks in the game for Philadelphia, while defensive end Josh Sweat led the Eagles with 2.5 sacks.
Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, amazingly, did not dial up a single blitz in Sunday's game.
Mahomes finished the contest 21-of-32 in the air for 257 yards, three touchdowns, two interceptions and a fumble lost in one of the worst games of his career. Mahomes did throw a 50-yard touchdown to rookie wideout Xavier Worthy to pad his stats late in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts was brilliant for the Eagles under center, completing 17-of-22 pass attempts for 221 yards and two touchdowns, plus another 72 rushing yards and a "tush push" score.
It was Hurts' performance that crowned him as Super Bowl MVP.
As for wide receiver DeVonta Smith, he caught a 46-yard game-clinching touchdown late in the third quarter to make it 34-0, Eagles.
Jake Elliott was also efficient on the evening, going 4-for-4 on field goal attempts, including a 50-yarder.
