The New York Jets are reportedly considering turning to a franchise great for their head coaching vacancy.
Gang Green has requested to interview former Jets cornerback turned New Orleans Saints defensive backs coach Aaron Glenn, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
The interview was expected to happen as soon as next week, Rapoport said in a tweet.
Glenn, 48, was set to be in his usual role with the Saints for their Wild Card matchup against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
The Jets were previously reported to have interviewed Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who is considered among the top candidates in this offseason's crop of coaches.
Glenn, a Houston native, has served in his current role since joining the Saints in 2016. He previously held the same job with the Cleveland Browns, and was a scout with the Jets for two years before that.
The Jets drafted Glenn 12th overall out of Texas A&M back in 1994.
He was victimized by the Dolphins' Dan Marino on the infamous "fake spike" touchdown pass in a tight game late in his rookie season, but recovered to become a stalwart of the team's turnaround under Bill Parcells, and enjoyed a fine career that included three Pro Bowl appearances.
The Texans snagged Glenn from the Jets in the 2002 expansion draft, and he later played for the Dallas Cowboys, where he was reunited with Parcells. He also had brief stints with the Jaguars and Saints before retiring as a player in 2008.
