Michael Kesselring out long-term for Sabres

The defenseman had already missed time this season with a knee injury

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - By now, the Buffalo Sabres are used to bad news on the injury front.

Sabres defenseman Michael Kesselring missed the first 10 games of the season with a knee injury, and then played nine games before leaving Saturday's win over the Detroit Red Wings. He exited the locker room in a walking boot.

Head coach Lindy Ruff says it’s going to be awhile until Kesselring will see the ice for game action again.

"He’s going to be out an extended period of time, on the longer side, weeks," said Ruff on Tuesday after practice.

I passed Zach Benson in the press box during Monday’s game and he still had a walking boot on, but according to Ruff, the news on him is better,

“He’s good, I talked to him this morning and he’s doing well. I think he’ll be joining the morning skate tomorrow.”

Benson has only played eight games this season and has no goals and eight assists.

Ruff said Mattias Samuelsson, Jordan Greenway and Colten Ellis all had maintenance days on Monday. Jason Zucker and Josh Norris both alternated in on his line with Tyson Kozak and Peyton Krebs. Both still had non-contact sweaters on.

Ellis has started two games in a row and three out of four. In those three games he’s 2-1-0 with a 3.02 goals against and .907 save percentage.
