Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) – The Buffalo Sabres were hoping the NHL holiday break would bring good news on the COVID-19 front, but the reality is, things got worse.
Head coach Don Granato, Dylan Cozens and Mark Jankowski have been placed in NHL COVID-19 protocols, joining Vinnie Hinostroza, Jeff Skinner and Zemgus Girgensons, who went into protocols before the break.
The Sabres announced that all three are asymptomatic.
The Sabres game against the New York Islanders on Monday had already been postponed with Wednesday home game against the New Jersey Devils and Thursday’s road game against the New York Islanders now in jeopardy.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports that the NHL is looking into easing roster restrictions to have more players available.
There are some rules on who is eligible for a taxi squad, including clearing of waivers and time spent on an NHL roster.
