Buffalo, NY (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Bruins earned a Game 2 victory with a convincing win Tuesday night at KeyBank Center. Boston scored four straight goals to jump out to a big lead and would stop the late Sabres push to earn the 4-2 victory.
----------
The physical play started early between the Sabres and Bruins, first just 1:10 into the game Rasmus Dahlin and Elias Lindholm went to the box. Then just three minutes later multiple scrums would start after a whistle. Nikita Zadorov getting called for both cross checking and roughing, with Beck Malenstyn going for roughing as well. Buffalo would end up on the power play but couldn't convert with their first man advantage of the night.
The Sabres got into some penalty trouble midway through the first period as Josh Doan first got called for hooking, then late in the penalty kill, Conor Timmins was sent to the box for cross checking. Buffalo's penalty kill was up to the task killing off both penalties keeping the game scoreless.
It would be the Bruins getting on the board first, five minutes into the second period as Jonathan Aspirot sent Viktor Arvidsson in past the Buffalo defense alone and he would beat Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen between the pads.
Boston extended their lead to 2-0 as Morgan Geekie back-handed the puck in to the Buffalo zone on a dump in and the puck would take an awkward bounce and go past Luukkonen into the net.
Late in the second with Tage Thompson in the box for interference, the Bruins made it a 3-0 game with Pavel Zacha scoring with a deflection off a centering feed from David Pastrnak.
The Bruins kept the momentum going into the third as they would score just 0:16 into the final frame as Viktor Arvidsson snapped a wrister top corner for his second of the game to make it 4-0. Alex Lyon would take over in goal for Buffalo.
With the game getting out of hand, the physical play ramped up as well. First it was Logan Stanley and Mark Kastelic both were sent off five minutes for fighting. Then later in the period after a whistle in front of the Boston net, multiple scrums broke out that resulted in penalties for both teams.
Buffalo finally got on the board as Bowen Byram scored to make it a 4-1 game with 6:06 left in the third.
Then with the goaltender pulled, Peyton Krebs made it 4-2 game with less than five minutes to play as he put home a loose puck in front of the Boston goal.
The Sabres would pull Alex Lyon once again but would fail to get another past Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman, as the Bruins would take Game 2 by a 4-2 margin. Swayman finished the game with 34 saves in the win.
Alex Lyon finished the game stopping all seven shots he faced after taking over for Luukkonen in the third period.
Once again the Sabres power play came up empty, going scoreless five times with the man advantage and are now 0-for-9 through two games in the series.
