Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - Despite being on the ice for just two goals-against at even strength in 38 games this season, the Buffalo Sabres sent defenseman Zach Metsa back down to the Rochester Americans on Thursday.
The last time the 27-year-old rookie was on the ice for a goal-against, the calendar read October.
Metsa had played five good games with newly acquired defenseman Logan Stanley, but gave way to Conor Timmins, who I thought played his best game as a member of the Sabres on Wednesday against the Boston Bruins.
Buffalo also has Michael Kesselring and Luke Schenn, but both have struggled.
Metsa scored two goals and four assists for six points, and was also a plus-20 in those 38 games played.
The Sabres practiced for around 20 minutes on Thursday with Noah Ostlund missing, because he was being examined for an upper-body injury.
Alex Lyon had his own net at practice, which means he'll start on Friday against his former team, the Detroit Red Wings.
