Tage Thompson named NHL's 'Third Star' of the Week

The Sabres center scored twice and added five assists, as the team continues to roll

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - For the second time this season, Buffalo Sabres center Tage Thompson has earned league honors, being named as the NHL's "Third Star" of the Week.

Over the course of four games this past week, Thompson was able to contribute two goals and five assists for seven points. This included a four-assist night on Sunday night in Buffalo's wild 8-7 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning at KeyBank Center.

Thompson is currently riding an 11-game point streak, where he has notched six goals and added nine assists for 15 points. In the seven games since the Olympic break, in which he won a gold medal with Team USA in Milan, Thompson has contributed 11 points (4+7) with the Sabres.

Through 64 games this season, the 28-year-old has scored 34 goals and added 36 assists for 70 points. He's on pace to finish his 2025-26 season with 90 points (44+46) in a full 82 games.

Earlier this season, Thompson was named the NHL's "First Star" of the Week during the week of Jan. 17, in which he scored three goals and registered six assists for nine points in four games.

As for the other stars honored by the NHL this week, Winnipeg Jets center Mark Scheifele was named week's No. 1 star, while Colorado Avalanche center Martin Necas was the "Second Star" of the Week.
