A 48 year old Indiana man is dead following a standoff at the Beech Street Hockey Rink in Hazleton. State police have not identified the man by name. They say he was a passenger in a truck-tractor and wanted for a homicide probation violation. When officers pulled the truck over on Interstate 81, the driver exited the vehicle, but the passenger fled. Troopers from Frackville and Hazleton became involved in the pursuit that spanned many miles and ended when the truck became stuck in a grassy area near the Hazleton skating rink. During the three hour standoff, police say the man refused to surrender and fired at officers from inside the vehicle. He was shot and killed. An investigation continues.
