15 mayors from across the state are asking the federal government for financial help for their cities from the next CARES legislative relief package. The Mayors including Scranton and Wilkes Barre sent a letter to members of the Senate and House to pass a local government fiscal assistance bill of at least $250 billion for the coming year. Saying "Our local economies will determine Pennsylvania’s ability to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic", and that the funds would be critical to continue to "provide essential police, fire, public health, and public works services for our residents as this crisis continues."
