The Scranton School Board will hold a virtual work session this evening and before it's over we could find out how many workers in the district may be furloughed. The district will begin virtual learning beginning September 8 and that could lead to as many as 130 staff and clerical workers furloughed. The district plans to evaluate at the end of each quarter whether they will continue virtual learning. They hope to bring back all those furloughed when they go back to in-person learning. The district is facing numerous financial issues, compounded by the pandemic. The meeting will be available online via scrds.org.
