A 17 year old from Wilkes-Barre died early this morning following an accidental drowning at the Seven Tubs Recreation Area in Luzerne County.
Emergency crews were called to the popular park just before 8 p.m. Sunday after witnesses reported seeing the young man jump into the water and not resurface. Authorities say the area where he jumped is off-limits to swimmers.
DCNR rangers, dive teams, local fire departments, and EMTs responded to the scene. The victim was underwater for approximately 40 minutes before he was recovered and rushed to a nearby hospital.
The Luzerne County coroner tells WILK the teen died early this morning.
Authorities have not yet released the teen’s name. A portion of Seven Tubs was closed during the rescue operation as parkgoers were escorted out.
