ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA – After a tense, four-day manhunt, Pennsylvania State Police have apprehended Ryan McDermott, a man wanted on charges of child rape. The 40-year-old was captured late Sunday in the Sweet Valley area of Ross Township.
McDermott, from Lake Township, had been considered “armed and dangerous” by authorities. State police had discovered firearms and explosives at his home while executing a search warrant, which elevated the urgency of the search. Details regarding the circumstances of his capture have not been released at this time.
The arrest warrant for McDermott was issued by the Pittston Township Police Department. He is accused of raping a girl at several motels across the Wyoming Valley between late June and August.
McDermott was transported to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility early Monday morning and was later arraigned by District Judge Joseph Carmody. He faces multiple felony and misdemeanor child sex offenses. Judge Carmody ordered McDermott to be held without bail, citing him as a significant flight risk.
