Kline Township officials voted unanimously Monday to recommend conditional approval for a massive, 350-acre Amazon Web Services data center project near Route 309 and Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County. The proposed development, situated on clear-cut land, encompasses approximately two million square feet of data center facilities along with 500,000 square feet of administrative and accessory space owned and operated by Amazon. Under the township's conditional recommendation, Amazon must submit to strict stipulations in its final development agreement—including conducting a post-construction acoustic study, performing pre- and post-blasting structural surveys on neighboring properties, and providing advance notice before making any future modifications. Local officials warned that failure to satisfy any of the conditions could risk a site shutdown, leaving the final fate of the multi-million-dollar development up to a decisive vote by the Kline Township Supervisors on Wednesday.
