Another area District Attorney plans to file suit against several social media companies. According to published reports, Wyoming County District Attorney Joe Peters is suing several social media giants in what he described as an effort to “hold big tech accountable,” alleging widespread harm to minors. Luzerne County recently filed a similar federal suit, as did several area school districts, and the Lackawanna County district attorney’s office will likely do the same. Wyoming County’s federal lawsuit claims Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Snapchat designed and marketed exploitative and addictive platforms targeting young users. It names as defendants the various social media entities, as well as their parent companies, subsidiaries and affiliates.
