Nanticoke — On Saturday, April 5th, U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan met with local labor leaders and U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer to discuss ways unions and businesses can collaborate to protect American workers and drive economic success.

Before the roundtable, Rep. Bresnahan, Secretary Chavez-DeRemer, and labor leaders toured the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 163 JATC, a facility where apprentices gain hands-on experience under the guidance of journeymen. As the former Chairman of the JATC, Rep. Bresnahan was eager to see continued advancements and expansions in both the facility and its curriculum.

“It’s crucial that we have a skilled workforce to support vital infrastructure projects, such as rebuilding roads and bridges, modernizing the electric grid, and implementing high-speed internet,” said Rep. Bresnahan. “These strong workforces are made possible through apprenticeships. I want to thank Secretary Chavez-DeRemer for making Northeastern Pennsylvania the first stop on her listening tour. I look forward to continuing this collaboration with the Secretary and labor leaders to protect and prioritize American workers.”

Secretary Chavez-DeRemer shared, “From strengthening educational pathways for good-paying jobs to eliminating burdensome regulations that hinder economic growth, I enjoyed learning firsthand what workers in Northeastern Pennsylvania need to thrive. Thank you to Congressman Bresnahan for hosting this productive roundtable. I look forward to continuing our partnership to amplify the voices of workers left behind by Washington.”

These programs not only equip workers with the skills to become highly skilled electricians but also allow apprentices to earn a living wage while perfecting their craft.

The meeting took place at the IBEW Local Union 163 JATC Apprenticeship Program in Nanticoke.
