A 19-year-old Carbondale man was sentenced to prison on Monday for the sexual assault of two children. Authorities say Matthew Roche assaulted a boy and a girl on multiple occasions last summer, with the incidents occurring in both Lackawanna and Monroe counties.
The sentencing follows Roche’s legal proceedings in December, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault. A judge ordered Roche to serve a term of one year and four months to two years and eight months in prison.
The case involved a joint investigation by regional authorities to address the crimes committed across county lines. Following his release from prison, Roche will be subject to court-ordered supervision and requirements related to his convictions.
