Today will mark Matt McGloin's final day as Lackawanna County Commissioner. After 14 months on the job, McGloin's resignation becomes effective today. McGloin released a letter on Friday, per the report, part of which read: “this was not an easy decision to make, … but I have to do what’s best for my family and explore other options outside of county government.”. Under the county’s Home Rule Charter, the Lackawanna County Democratic Party’s executive committee will have five days from the day of the vacancy to provide a list of three potential appointees for consideration by judges of the county Court of Common Pleas. The county judges will then appoint someone from that short list to fill the remainder of McGloin’s term, which expires in early January 2028.
