A 4 year multi million dollar project to rebuild the Interstate 80 east and west bound bridges over the Lehigh River in Luzerne and Carbon counties, is expected to begin in April of 2024. PennDOT says the work will mean they won't have to do more repairs in the future, make them wider and extend the eastbound on ramp. Yesterday PennDOT met with White Haven community members to discuss the project. Many are concerned that the plan to send construction vehicles along Main Street and build a temporary access road to the Lehigh Gorge State Park will disrupt business in the downtown as well as putting those who use the recreation area at risk. They are also concerned if an accident happens on I 80 that will mean more congestion.
