Fire crews are battling a large wildfire in Carbon County. The brush fire is now classified as a wildfire due to its size, was reported at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, south of Jim Thorpe near Bear Mountain, according to Carbon County officials. Four departments were initially called, but now 70 to 90 firefighters from multiple departments are on the scene fighting the wildfire, which has grown to over 450 acres in size. A DCNR official estimates it will take a week to fully extinguish.
