KELAYRES, PA — Kline Township supervisors have officially rescheduled a high-stakes public meeting for tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., after an overflow crowd forced the cancellation of the original session last month. The meeting, which will now take place in the gymnasium of the McAdoo/Kelayres Elementary/Middle School on Fifth Street, is expected to draw hundreds of residents seeking information on a massive proposed Amazon data center.

The project involves a significant parcel of land near Lofty Road, often referred to locally as "Devil’s Mountain." Amazon Data Services, a subsidiary of Amazon Web Services (AWS), purchased roughly 350 acres of the site for over $178 million last year. The land, which was originally slated for a 3.5-million-square-foot warehouse complex, is now the focus of a multibillion-dollar investment into cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Residents have expressed a wide range of concerns regarding the transition from traditional warehousing to a high-intensity data center. Primary points of contention include the facility's immense demand for electricity and water, the potential for noise pollution from industrial cooling systems, and the impact of new high-voltage transmission lines that may be required to power the campus. While the project promises significant tax revenue and thousands of temporary construction jobs, many community members remain skeptical about the long-term environmental and residential impact on the surrounding villages of Lofty, Haddock, and McAdoo.

Tomorrow's meeting is intended to be the first formal presentation where supervisors and Amazon representatives address these specific community questions. Officials chose the school gymnasium to ensure that all interested residents could be accommodated safely, avoiding the overcrowding issues that shut down the Kelayres town hall in December.
