HARRISBURG, PA—One of the nation's largest pharmacy chains will resume administering the COVID-19 vaccine in Pennsylvania, following a new policy from the state's Board of Pharmacy.

The move comes after Governor Josh Shapiro urged the board to take action to "ensure vaccine access for those most in need, like seniors and those with underlying conditions" following a federal policy change that created confusion and halted vaccinations in the state.

CVS Pharmacy, which had previously stopped administering the shots or required prescriptions in Pennsylvania, stated it will now resume vaccinations "as soon as possible at locations throughout Pennsylvania."

The state board's vote allows pharmacists to follow vaccine recommendations from major medical organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, rather than being bound solely by guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's advisory committee, which has yet to issue its recommendations on the latest vaccine.
