SCRANTON, PA — A West Scranton restaurant has been ordered to immediately close its doors after the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office intervened following mounting complaints over early morning noise, outdoor fights, and violent incidents surrounding the establishment.
The District Attorney's office took action to shut down Isla Paraiso, located on South Main Avenue, after determining the location presents an ongoing threat to public safety. While prosecutors noted that the business operates as a reputable restaurant during daytime hours, its transition into late-night nightclub operations has generated dozens of emergency calls for police intervention as disruptive crowds spill into the neighborhood streets.
The emergency closure follows a recent incident early Sunday morning when a gunshot was fired outside the business. Although no injuries were reported, District Attorney Brian Gallagher cited the shooting as part of a troubling, intolerable pattern of behavior linked to the venue.
A formal court hearing is scheduled for Thursday at the Lackawanna County Courthouse to determine whether Isla Paraiso will be officially designated as a public nuisance establishment. The restaurant will remain locked and shuttered until a judge issues a final ruling on whether the location can ever reopen.
