Dickson City has become the latest Midvalley community to be targeted for data center development, joining a growing list of Lackawanna County municipalities grappling with the rise of the energy-intensive industry. The borough recently received four proposals in late November for data center campuses on commercially zoned land off Business Route 6. These submissions bring the total number of proposed data center projects in the Midvalley region alone to 11, with Archbald serving as a hotbed with five proposed campuses and Jessup having two. This surge in interest is reshaping the regional landscape, as developers seek out sites near major power lines and transportation corridors. While the momentum is high—with a separate large campus also proposed in Clifton and Covington townships along Interstate 380—it is not without friction; a proposal for up to four data center buildings in Blakely was withdrawn in September following intense community opposition.
