A local developer has asked the Dickson City Zoning Hearing Board to overturn the denial of four proposed data centers along Bell Mountain. Dickson City Development LLC, a firm associated with Kriger Construction Inc., appealed the decisions on Wednesday night following the rejection of their zoning permit applications earlier this year.

The proposal includes four facilities situated across a 1.5-mile stretch above Business Route 6, with one site planned for the property of the Circle Drive-In. Despite the project’s location, the president of the Circle Drive-In clarified on Thursday that the theater’s operations and its popular flea market would not be affected by the development.

Zoning Officer James Damski originally denied the applications in February, citing incomplete plans and a pending ordinance. That ordinance, which has since been adopted by the borough, restricts data center development to specific manufacturing zones and prohibits them on the commercially zoned land where the Bell Mountain sites are located.

During the hearing, the borough solicitor also argued that at least one of the proposed sites sits within a residential area. The zoning board will now weigh the developer’s claim that the applications should be considered under previous rules against the borough's effort to protect the interest of the community through its new industrial regulations.
