DUNMORE, PA — For the first time in over a decade, Dunmore Borough residents are being asked to pay for municipal trash collection following a council decision that ended 11 years of free garbage service.
Although the Dunmore Borough Council originally approved the change in December, many property owners were unaware of the upcoming charge until formal notification letters arrived in their mailboxes in late July.
Addressing the community backlash over the sudden announcement, Mayor Max Conway and members of the borough council issued a public apology for the delayed rollout, acknowledging that residents should have received earlier notice regarding the new fee structure.
Dunmore Borough Manager Greg Wolff stated that the $150 annual garbage fee is expected to generate approximately $700,000 in municipal revenue. The funding will directly support waste management operations and offset rising municipal sanitation costs.
Residents have until the end of December to submit their payment to the borough.
